Dr. Thomas Su is a board-certified dermatologist working in the city of Glendale for the past 5 years. Dr. Su specializes in General Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery, with specific interest in skin cancer detection, prevention, and treatment.
Dr. Su grew up in Southern California and went to Rosemead High School where he was Captain of the tennis team, the Academic Decathlon team leader, and graduated as Valedictorian. He went to college locally at UCLA, where he majored in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and was involved in various community services organizations, including the Hunger Project, Unicamp, and the Community Service Commission. In 1996, he graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
Dr. Su then enrolled in the combined MD/PhD program at UCLA, where he completed his PhD in Molecular Biology, specifically doing cutting edge biomedical research in immunology and cancer biology. In 2004, Dr. Su received his medical degree from the UCLA School of Medicine where he received various letters of distinction and several NIH research awards.
Due to his specific interest and dedication to cancer patients, Dr. Su went on to train in a Medical Internship in New York at the world-renowned Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
After his stint on the east coast, Dr. Su returned to UCLA, where he completed his dermatology training as a STAR Resident in Dermatology. Following his residency, Dr. Su remained on faculty at UCLA as a Clinical Instructor, teaching dermatology to medical students and residents.
In addition, Dr. Su completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the California Institute of Technology, in Pasadena, CA, where he trained under the mentorship of Dr. David Baltimore, a Nobel laureate and former President of Caltech. During this time, Dr. Su investigated novel therapies for melanoma and studied the role of ultraviolet light on skin cancer progression. Every day in his dermatology practice, Dr. Su draws upon his expertise in immunology and skin cancer biology to give the most optimal care to his patients.
In 2009, Dr. Su transitioned from the university setting into private practice, caring for patients in the city of Glendale. Over the past 5 years, Dr. Su has dedicated himself to taking care of his patients in a caring, intellectual, and skillful manner. In addition, his passion for teaching is still evident as he continues to teach dermatology to medical students and residents at both the UCLA School of Medicine and the USC Keck School of Medicine.
In his spare time, Dr. Su enjoys spending time with his lovely wife and playing with his two young boys. His hobbies include tennis, basketball, surfing, and traveling.
